Job Summary:
This position plays a critical role in supporting Augusta Health’s mission and advancing departmental goals through measurable performance indicators and service excellence. This position contributes to a collaborative, patient-centered environment and helps drive outcomes aligned with organizational priorities.

Reporting to the Administrative Director of Finance & Corporate Controller, with an explicit dotted-line relationship to the Senior Vice President & Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Manager of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A) owns Augusta Health’s financial planning and decision-support systems, supports the annual budget and forecasting process, and provides financial, labor productivity, and benchmarking analysis across the organization.

This leader serves as the organization’s subject matter expert and system owner for its core financial planning and decision-support platforms, including the budgeting and capital planning system, the labor productivity system, benchmarking tools, and related financial systems. The Manager ensures these systems are accurately built, maintained, reconciled, and used effectively by leaders across Augusta Health and Augusta Medical Group.

The role requires an advanced Excel and systems expert who can rapidly build models, reconcile data across multiple sources (finance, payroll, nursing, operational, and clinical systems), and translate complex analyses into clear, actionable insights for directors, executives, and governance. The Manager leads a small team of financial analysts and is the go-to resource for analyses on virtually any financial or operational question facing the organization.

Through the dotted-line relationship, the Manager will directly support the CFO on strategic, executive, and Board-level analyses, including long-range financial planning, reimbursement and policy impact modeling, and enterprise margin improvement initiatives.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Budget & Forecasting Support:
    • Support the annual operating budget process by ensuring the budgeting system is configured, loaded, and ready for each cycle, and by providing analysis for volume and statistic projections, FTE and labor modeling, non-labor expense, and the consolidated rollup.
    • Assist department directors, service line leaders, and AMG Operations with budget system use, data, and analytical questions during the budget cycle.
    • Support flex budgets, rolling forecasts, and year-end projections.
    • Support the capital budgeting process through financial evaluation (ROI, payback, total cost of ownership) of capital requests, in coordination with the PPMO.
    • Support the long-range financial plan and multi-year scenario modeling aligned to the strategic plan.
  • Financial Systems Leadership:
    • Serve as system owner and lead administrator for the budgeting and planning system, labor productivity system, benchmarking tools, and related financial decision-support platforms.
    • Maintain system hierarchies, cost center and account structures, drivers, data loads, interfaces, user security, and reporting; ensure data integrity and timely reconciliation to the general ledger, payroll, and source systems.
    • Serve as primary liaison with vendors and Information Technology on upgrades, enhancements, issue resolution, and new implementations or conversions; recommend opportunities to optimize, integrate, or consolidate financial systems.
    • Develop training, documentation, and standard work so leaders can use financial systems effectively and independently.
  • Labor Productivity & Benchmarking:
    • Lead the labor productivity program, including selection and maintenance of units of service, productivity targets, and pay-period and monthly productivity reporting for all departments.
    • Provide FTE, position control, skill mix, and productivity analyses to support the Labor Management Strategy Team (LMST) and staffing decisions.
    • Lead internal and external benchmarking of labor, cost, and operational metrics; reconcile methodology differences across data sources and identify opportunities to improve staffing standards and efficiency.
    • Partner with Nursing and operational leaders on staffing analyses (e.g., hours per patient day) and support external reporting requirements that rely on labor and volume data.
    • Cross-train team members and maintain documentation to ensure continuity of critical processes and systems.
  • Financial Analysis & Decision Support:
    • Serve as the organization’s lead analyst for complex, ad hoc, and strategic financial analyses, including new programs and services, service line and physician practice performance, pro formas, and return-on-investment evaluations.
    • Produce monthly variance analysis and commentary on volume, revenue, labor, and expense; identify trends, risks, and opportunities for leaders.
    • Develop and maintain dashboards, key performance indicators, and executive reporting; expand self-service reporting for operational leaders.
    • Quantify and track the financial impact of margin improvement and performance improvement initiatives.
    • Automate recurring reports and analyses to reduce manual effort and improve timeliness and accuracy.
  • Executive & Governance Support:
    • Through the dotted-line relationship, partner directly with the CFO on strategic analyses, executive presentations, and Finance Committee and Board materials.
    • In partnership with Reimbursement, model the financial impact of regulatory, reimbursement, and policy changes (e.g., Medicaid supplemental payments, provider assessments, and federal legislation).
    • Prepare supporting analyses and materials on budget, forecast, productivity, and benchmarking for the executive team, Finance Committee, and Board.
  • Team Leadership:
    • Hire, develop, coach, and evaluate a small team of financial analysts; set priorities and ensure timely, accurate deliverables.
    • Foster a team culture of accuracy, curiosity, service, and continuous improvement that models Augusta Health’s values.
